1. Krasnokutsky arboretum
Krasnokutsky Arboretum is one of the oldest in Ukraine, and certainly the oldest in the region. It can be called the work of Ivan Karazin, who is considered the first Ukrainian biologist. He received 17 hectares of land from his father and planted a garden on them. He took into account the natural relief, arranged terraces, organized drainage. He also created two ponds with a special microclimate for certain plant species. Ivan Karazin traveled a lot and brought new exhibits from each country – from China, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Mexico, and more. Thanks to his work, more than 50 species of plants have appeared in Ukraine for the first time, which have never grown here before.
Currently, the park features a little more than 350 species of plants, including the Ginkgo biloba tree, Chinese ash, Japanese sophora, vinegar, and ship wood. The area is well equipped – clean alleys, springs with drinking water, gazebos, and other tourist infrastructure. Admission is free for all, guided tours. Distance from Kharkiv: 94 km. 2. The Kulikowski estate (Interesting Places)
The Kulikowski estate is one of the oldest buildings of this type in the Kharkiv region. It was built in the XVIII century by Colonel
Kulikovsky and was finished by his son. Once there was a whole complex of premises – in addition to a luxurious estate with columns, a greenhouse, a stable, a poultry house, a water mill were built. They planted a garden with terraces and created several artificial ponds. They even built their church of the Archangel Michael.
After the death of Kulikowski’s son, his daughters were unable to maintain the estate and sold it. Even though part of the farm
buildings was dismantled into bricks, the main building of the estate was preserved. Now the Rokytnia Agrarian Lyceum is located on the premises of the estate, the staff of which mainly maintains it in a normal condition. The church, which was a warehouse in Soviet times, is now in operation.

3. Salt lake
The salt lake in the village of Antonivka is salty, and its water is very reminiscent of the sea. It was caused by a man-made catastrophe: in the process of searching for new gas fields nearby, they started drilling a well, expecting to find deposits of natural gas under the salt dome at great depth. But the gas was encountered much earlier, and its pressure was so high that workers and locals had to be evacuated. In order not to pollute the atmosphere, the gas was set on fire – it burned for a long time, but did not subside. In addition, an abyss began to form. Then the well was filled with concrete and the only way to stop the flow of gas. Over time, groundwater began to collect in the natural depths, washed away the aforementioned salt lens, and formed a real salt lake.
The water here is quite salty, so it is easy to swim and dive – not very much. Locals say it heals wounds well. And they believe that
the lake is very deep – about 2 km, and at its bottom is a drilling rig. Currently, the process of its gradual desalination is underway. Distance from Kharkiv: 117 km. How to get there: by bus from the bus station №1 “Kharkiv-Kegychivka”, and walk a little.
4. Weber Manor
The Weber estate (or Weberivka) is located on the edge of the village of Pervukhinka. Locals call it a castle, but it is still a classic
manor house where the German Weber once lived. He worked at the factory of the tycoon Koenig, located nearby – in the village of Guta. And the tycoon himself settled close – in the estate Sharivka, which is the next location on the list. Therefore, their visit should be combined so as not to go twice in the same direction.
The territory of the estate is huge – 4 hectares. The total area of all buildings reaches 1,200 m2, the largest of which is a three-story estate with 15 rooms made of red brick. There is a park nearby where you can find the remains of a fountain. In Soviet times, there was an orphanage in Weberivka, but now it seems to be privately owned. After all, in 2020 they tried to sell it. It is unknown whether they sold, but the message disappeared from the bulletin boards. Therefore, you should take the opportunity to visit the estate for free.
