Introduction
How to earn money from YouTube? That’s the question millions of people are asking right now. On average, YouTube creators make around $1 per 1000 views on their channel (some more, some less). There are many ways to monetize your channel, including sponsored videos and displaying ads on your videos. However, unless you have millions of subscribers and billions of views, it’s unlikely that you’ll be making millions this way.
Growing your channel
In order to make money on YouTube, you need to be growing your channel. There’s no way around it. Whether that means getting more subscribers or developing a strong connection with current followers, creating good content is the foundation of a successful career on YouTube. It can take months or even years of consistent growth before you start seeing checks in your mailbox, but if you’re dedicated and stick with it, there is no limit (within reason) to how much you can earn on a Google-owned video platform. So let’s go over some best practices for growing your channel and what it takes to get there.
Choosing monetization settings
Before you make money from YouTube, you have to get permission first. The first step is choosing your monetization settings and linking a valid payment method to your account (or signing up for Google Wallet). This allows you to earn money by having ads play before your videos. You need at least 10,000-lifetime views on your videos before making any money, however. Once you’ve made that happen, log in and claim your AdSense account (if you already have one) or sign up for one if it’s been more than 30 days since signing up for an AdSense account. You’ll fill out some paperwork and enter information about yourself. Be honest!
Getting a view count boost
One of your most important goals as a video creator is building up that view count. And one of your most important tools in doing so is using what are called view bots. These apps can help you get tens or even hundreds of thousands of views, very quickly. The easiest way to use these bots is by just clicking on a button and letting them run automatically while you do something else. You won’t even have to interact with your computer for it; just sit back and watch your view count skyrocket. Using them does come with some risk, though: it’s entirely possible that if you’re caught doing so, YouTube could give all of those views back.
Monetizing through Youtube vlogs
If you want to go with a relatively easy and straightforward option, monetizing through videos might be it. With your own channel, you don’t have to guess how much of an audience you’ll have—you can just put out your content for everyone to see! Then, once you have enough traffic and views, you can start doing sponsored content or paid advertising through video. The earnings are pretty decent once you get going, but there are a few things that make it more difficult than other methods. First off, all those viewers mean that your video will take longer to load when they watch it—meaning they’re far less likely (or able) to stick around until the end. And if they do stick around?
Monetizing through gaming videos
If you play games like Call of Duty or Clash of Clans and record your sessions, you can monetize your videos through sites like GameSpot (for gameplay and commentary) or Vimeo (for more artistic creations). Through these sites, viewers can donate money directly to you through PayPal based on how much they liked your video. As with subscriptions, don’t expect a massive payday. PewDiePie reports earning roughly $4 million per year for his work on YouTube—that’s about $2 million per month. However, he has reported making around $12 million in 2013 so if that monthly figure is correct then he’s earned more than Hollywood A-listers Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lawrence combined!
Being patient
Patience is a virtue and one you’ll need if you plan on earning money from YouTube. When it comes to ad revenue, channels with more than 100,000 subscribers can make as much as $4 per 1,000 views. If you’re just starting out, consider setting your sights a bit lower—try aiming for 1,000 views per video at first. Over time and with patience (and hard work), you should see numbers rise. The payoff may not be huge at first, but even a few dollars here and there can really add up over time.
Sponsored videos
If you’re serious about earning money from YouTube, consider supplementing your income with sponsored videos. This is a bit of a catch-22 situation because, in order to get companies and brands on board, you need a significant subscriber base. At 100,000 subscribers and 4 million views per month, I’m able to make a decent supplemental income through sponsored videos. If you can reach that level of viewership, there are plenty of opportunities available through ad partners like Google AdSense. These paid placements will allow you to make money while promoting products relevant to your channel and audience. Many YouTubers also create their own merchandise (such as T-shirts) related to their channel and will promote those in their videos as well.
Conclusion
If you can offer unique value that people are willing to pay for, then you can make money from YouTube. All it takes is a little creativity and persistence. So, before you resign yourself to thinking that no one wants to watch your cat-surfing antics or your seventh video of firecrackers in slow motion, try experimenting with new ideas and see what sticks! And don’t worry about making a fool of yourself—nobody’s watching anyway!
